In the first half of 2025, VALORCAR carried out a project to define a safe procedure for packaging, labeling and transporting lithium-ion battery waste, in accordance with the legislation applicable to the transport of dangerous goods.
The procedure classifies this waste into three risk levels: low, medium, and high (also identified by the colors green, yellow, and red, respectively). The risk level is determined by the battery temperature (above 60°C is considered high risk) and the presence of significant damage.
The risk level primarily influences the requirements for packaging used in transportation. At high risk level, the packaging must be certified to prevent the release of flames or excessive heat to the outside in the event of a fire inside.
This project was developed in partnership with CRZD and included the participation of B.AGAIN and PALMIRESÍDUOS, VALORCAR NETWORK operators certified for lithium-ion battery waste collection.
