Throughout 2024, VALORCAR promoted several tree planting actions, as part of a partnership with ANCAV – National Association of Vehicle Dismantling Centers. This initiative began by channeling part of the funds intended to reward VALORCAR NETWORK centers that in 2023 obtained the best performance rating in End-of-Life Vehicles dismantling.
The tree planting actions were led by Associação Plantar uma Árvore and integrated into the European Volunteer Solidarity Corps project ESCAPES, aiming at involve and train young people in the area of nature conservation, along with the regeneration of native forests and indigenous species, the recovery of native vegetation and the control of invasive exotic species. Thus, the aim was to increase biodiversity, reduce the risk of fire and minimize the impacts of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere.
These actions took place in the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, in the Serra do Alvão Natura 2000 Network and in the Bussaco National Forest, allowing the planting of 620 plants of 22 species, including oaks, pines, strawberry trees and cork oaks.
