VALORCAR NETWORK collected more than 17 thousand batteries in 2017

During the 2017, VALORCAR NETWORK collected a total of 17,511 tons of Used Car Batteries and Accumulators , which represented a year-on-year increase of 4.6% and achieved a collection rate of 88.7%.

After being collected, these batteries were sent for recycling in 5 industrial units specially dedicated to this activity, two of them being located in national territory and three in Spain.

Automotive batteries have an average life of 4 years, after which they become hazardous waste. VALORCAR NETWORK is formed by operators licensed by the Ministry of the Environment and hired by VALORCAR to collect these batteries. Currently, this network has already 100 centers spread throughout all continental regions (90) and in the autonomous regions of the Azores (9) and Madeira (1).

According to national legislation (Decree-Law 152-D / 2017), those who introduce these new batteries into the national market (importer) are obliged to register and join a system to ensure their collection and recycling when they become waste. Currently, VALORCAR's Integrated System has 404 adherent importers, which in 2017 sold nearly 20 thousand tons of new batteries, representing a year-on-year decrease of 0.4%.
